FAQ's

Is Boy Butter safe with condoms & silicone toys?

Depends on the formula, & it is the question staff must get right. Original & Gold are oil-based: not compatible with latex condoms; the brand recommends polyurethane condoms with them. H2O, Clear & Warming are water-based & latex-safe. On toys, Boy Butter states that every formula, including the oil-based Original, is safe on all toys, silicone included; if a customer's toy brand says water-based only, H2O or Clear is the safe recommendation.

Does Boy Butter wash off & stain?

It washes off with water alone & does not stain. That is the brand's whole pitch: the longevity of a silicone lubricant without the silicone clean-up, on skin & on sheets. Every formula on this page carries the same washable, non-staining claim.

Who makes Boy Butter & where is it from?

Boy Butter was started in New York City in 2003 by Eyal Feldman, after a stint at the gay apparel brand Nasty Pig. The name is a play on "baby batter", the packaging is modelled on butter, & the first product was an oil-based cream lube for gay men that lasted like silicone but washed off with water. He sold it door to door to adult shops & handed out samples in Chelsea from a red wagon. More than 20 years on the lubricant range covers oil-based, water-based & warming formulas, the customer base is as much women as men, & the brand is made in the USA. It has been covered by Wirecutter, Out & Outsports, & ran a TV spot during Drag Race Season 18.
